80,000 blogs are created in every single day!

Do you know more than 70 Malaysia Politicians have blogs?

Do you know Google alone have more than 8,000 bloggers?

Do you know thousands of mid-level employees in IBM, Microsoft and Sun Microsystem are blogging?

Do you have one for your business?

Well… Blogs have expanded from “just another website” to a powerful marketing and communication tool. It grows a business with the following functions:

1. Say “bye bye” To 1 Way Communication

Traditional websites deliver information in a 1-way form. This is something like “I talk, Others Listen”. It’s almost the similar as a catalog or a book with information about your company. 1 way communication makes customers feel that they are 100% separated from the company. They are against or at the opposite side of the company.

Blogs killed this way of communication. It encourages readers to involve and interact. With blogs, businesses could easily turn customers into business partners. Customers’ ideas and feedback become an important asset and another competitive advantage to the business.

To create passive income streams from blogs, Keyword Sniping is one of the best method I’ve seen. It was originally created and named by Court at his blog. Although this concept is not new, I find that he is the only one who is willing to share this secret generously at Introduction to Keyword Sniping.

Keyword Sniping is definitely an eye-opener to me. The reason it’s called keyword sniping because this method is about using keywords to generate passive income.

This Is How It Works:

Firstly, choose a keyword which is profitable and not very competitive. Use SEO strategies to rank a blog with the keyword in the search engines. When traffic starts to flow, add in contextual ads such as Google Adsense to generate passive income.

An hour.

You could maintain a good corporate blog with just an hour per day. Don’t accumulate your daily blogging task to a 7 hour or 30 hour work in a day.

To be successful in blogging, consistency is a must! ‘An hour a day’ is better than ‘100 hours in a day per month’. The magic answer is ‘simply an hour a day’. Schedule it and I’ll show you how you could use this 1 hour to grow your blog:

Monday- Write a blog post (that’s what I call a article that is going to publish on your blog) and publish!

Continue right after the last post Follow Up Profits, this post will be how can you use blog as a tool to have that job done wonderful.

1. Stop the pitch

You got to stop the pitch if you want to do effective follow up. Since our customers and prospects hate it, do something else. Use “Attraction Follow Up” instead with creating value.

2. Create value

When we follow up with value, people love our follow up. They are attracted to read what is written in the blog that we use to follow up.

Why?

I’m going to use a company who sells property law services as an example.

Most corporate in Malaysia are not doing profitable follow up. I mean “Are you making lots of sales from calling, mailing or faxing to your customers?” Most answer are “No”. Some corporate are not even doing follow up at all.

This is a common problem you’ll face not just in Malaysia Corporate Blogging. If you have a popular blog or your company is popular, you might face a big problem- spammed comments

These comments could be full of links to sites which contains Adult related videos, medicine, insurance, credit card, etc. These comments are created by software that could automatically seek for blogs and comment on it. They are doing this to advertise their website and manipulate search engine results.

Most of the time, I’ll have more than 1000 spammed comments on my popular blogs.

Spammed comments will harm your blog in few ways:

1. Your blog will look ugly.
2. The credibility of your corporate blog will drop. Your corporate will be perceived as a corporate that is weak in managing data and information.
3. The communication channel with the market and customer will be broken. People might not be interested to read comments from you and others. They might not feel like commenting at all.

It’s important to learn how to handle this problem. So, here’re the steps:

Step 1: Register An Account With Wordpress.com

Go to wordpress.com and register and account. You need a set of numbers which is called the API Key.

Step 2: Activate the ‘Akismet’ Plugin

When you login your corporate blog admin area, click on “Plugin”. You will see a small list of plugin. Seek for “Akismet” and activate it. When you try to activate it, the blog will request you to enter your API Key. Enter it and the plugin will start working.

Step 3: Mark As Spam

When there’s comment spammers attack again, click on “comment” in your admin area. Seek for those comments you think they are spammed and click on “spam” (it’s just at the right hand side of each of the comments).

Next time they spam again, you won’t see them again. They are all captured by your Akismet Plugin in another category- Akismet Spam. It works like a junk box in your email account. You can just delete all of it or open it to see if there’s any comment that accidentally fall into it (not a common thing that will happen).

Hope this tip will save you a lot of time in moderating comments and help your corporate blog looks more professional. Have fun with Malaysia Corporate Blogging!

There’re 7 crucial points that determine a successful corporate blog.

1. Objectives

What are the objectives of your corporate blog? Is it building relationship with the market, follow up customers or marketing. A blog with a clear objectives will create attraction. I used to spend lots of time to advertise one of my blog. I couldn’t understand why promoting my blog is so struggling until I realize there’s no objective for the blog. Other 6 points are also developed and improved based on the blog’s objectives.

2. Readers

Who will read your blog? Who are you targeting? If you write to your friends, you don’t write details about your family. When you write to your business partner, you don’t write too much about the fun time you spend with your time. Same as your blog. When you are clear with the objectives, get clear with the readers you are targeting. If you are clear with the readers you are targeting, you now who will write the blog, the design, the writing style and the follow up that are the best.

3. Who Is Writing

You need to show your readers clearly about who is writing the blog. What is his position in the company? Clearly defines what will he writes about the company. Don’t use the name ‘admin’ to write blogs because it sounds too official and not personal.

4. Design

People judge a blog with their feel and experience. Before they start reading, they start at the ‘look’ of the color. Besides making the blog easy to read, navigate and beautiful, you need to create a unique design. A design that explains what is this blog talking about. If they find the design is bad, they will judge the contents are low quality before reading. Since most internet users surf many websites everyday. So if the design tells them this is not what they are looking for, they will just leave.

5. Writing style

If your corporate prefer to make each blog post official to for events or products announcement, that’s fine. However, with a conversational writing style with some personality makes your blog like a human being. Readers will experience listening to someone talking rather than reading a bunch of boring text. Conversational writing style allows you to quickly build strong relationship with your readers. However, make sure your writing style is consistent. Don’t switch your writing style.

6. Follow Up

Make sure there’s a method to follow up your readers. You could encourage them to sign up your blog’s RSS. RSS is a tool to follow up blog readers. You could use autoresponder services too. Every time you update your blog, use the ‘broadcast’ function to tell your readers you updated your blog and remind them to come and read. This helps building strong relationship with your readers.

7. Comment Policy

Blogs are allows comments. Encourage your readers to give comments about your blog and blog post. However, there’re people who comment for the sake of advertising, spamming or having fun commenting “Your blog and writing simply sucks.” Their comments will impact your blog and readers negatively. Just click the ‘delete’ or ’spam’ button when these situation comes. Set a policy for your comments.

Yes. Corporate blogs can be good at word-of-mouth marketing.

There are lots of corporate blogs in the online world. However, blogs that are spreading like wild fire or strong in word-of mouth have 2 key component:

1. Value

If the corporate blog is creating values that their market want and desire, people will start talking about it and start spreading the word. For example: If there’s real estate agency who start a blog that teach people how to buy good properties and tips to save thousands in their expenses, do you think people will talk about their blog.

Do you think their blog will be spreading around people’s ears especially those who want to buy real estates?

2. Uniqueness

If you are providing tips and knowledge on your blog which are already too popular or your competitors are already providing, do you think your blog is going to be popular?

Since that value can be acquired from anywhere, there’s no need to go to your blog. If you want word-of-mouth marketing work well for you, make sure you create unique value. Other books and seminar are not even talking about it. Only you know how to use it and know how to share it.
